Best thing I found, is to get an open cage cage, such as an MM Jailbird, and stay away from enclosed tubes like the Steelheart, CB series etc. I have found that silicone devices are better than the plastic ones if you want something cheaper, as they are able to be boiled to be sanitized. Still will need a release every day or two in order to keep it clean however. Best bet for long term is getting a more open device like mentioned at the start of my reply.
